Workspace groups

Workspaces in the sidebar can be grouped under a named parent section, instead of all being listed together in the standard “Workspaces” list.

How it works #

Each workspace has a “Workspace group” field. When left empty, the workspace stays in the standard “Workspaces” section of the sidebar, exactly as before. When filled in, the workspace is moved into its own section of the sidebar, named after the group, alongside all other workspaces sharing that same group name.

The group name is set from the workspace’s own header: an autocomplete field (“Workspace group”) lets the user either pick an existing group name or type a new one to create a group on the fly. The value is saved along with the rest of the workspace (Save button), or immediately when the workspace list view validates a rename.

Renaming a group is possible from this same field: typing a new name on a workspace that already belongs to a group is detected as a rename attempt, and the user is offered the option to rename the group for all other workspaces that share it, so the whole group moves together instead of splitting in two.

Changing a workspace’s group follows the same permission rules as editing the workspace itself (workspace owner, or Workspace Manager for public workspaces).

Known limitations #

Groups are a purely visual grouping of the sidebar: they affect neither permissions, nor workspace content, nor their order beyond placing grouped workspaces in their own section.
